Q. What’s your favorite part of working in Occupational Health?
As an occupational health nurse practitioner, I enjoy providing individualized patient care while also considering the broader workforce and environmental factors. Over the years, I have valued the professional relationships I have built with individuals and the opportunity to do so, as well as advising organizations on preventing and managing occupational injuries and illnesses. My role allows me to make a meaningful impact on both individual well-being and workplace health and safety.
Q. What’s one thing about Occupational Health nursing that might surprise people?
Our role extends far beyond treating work-related injuries and illnesses. We focus heavily on prevention, partnering with employees to promote health and wellness through education and proactive care. We protect and educate employees on a range of topics, including but not limited to travel health, reproductive health as it relates to the workplace, and overall employee well-being. Additionally, we facilitate flu and COVID-19 clinics and provide convenient care services. At its core, our work is about true partnership and advocacy, ensuring employees have the knowledge and resources to maintain their health and safety.
Q. How does your role support the Lab’s scientific mission and help our researchers do their best work?
At Health Services, we support this mission by providing high-quality healthcare and safety education to the Lab community. As an occupational and environmental health nurse practitioner, I am trained to understand, anticipate, and proactively address the health and safety needs of the Lab, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all.
Q. How do you like to spend your time outside of work?
In my free time, I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends, going on road trips, cooking when I can, and exploring the outdoors through hiking.
Lea Glick brings 25 years of nursing experience, including 15 years as a Nurse Practitioner and 10 years as a Registered Nurse.
Q. What’s your favorite part of working in Occupational Health?
The work is incredibly meaningful. I really enjoy addressing wellness and prevention at every visit. I practice on the principle that “movement is the medicine” encouraging small changes (just a 15 min walk!) can have a large impact over time.
Q. What’s one thing about Occupational Health nursing that might surprise people?
The job is incredibly diverse, from seeing employees’ bumps and bruises, evaluating potentially harmful exposures to making sure employees are well protected from the hazards of international travel. The work is very interesting!
Q. How does your role support the Lab’s scientific mission and help our researchers do their best work?
It is an honor to be able to play a role in keeping this specialized workforce healthy and productive as well as contributing to the health of the larger community.
Q. How do you like to spend your time outside of work?
I love hiking in the Oakland Hills with my goldendoodle Fozzie, but most often I am watching sports of my three boys. I am embracing my soccer mom era! I also enjoy cheering on the local soccer team, Oakland Roots and the GS Warriors.
Becky Tse has served as a Nurse Practitioner for 14 years.
Q. What’s your favorite part of working in Occupational Health?
Learning about the daily tasks employees do as part of their job and the recreation activities employees participate in outside of work to balance their lives.
Q. How does your role support the Lab’s scientific mission and help our researchers do their best work?
The clinic thrives on ensuring all employees are safe to perform job duties. We assess and treat work and non-work related illness/injury according to best practices so that employees can recover and return to their full work and life.
Q. How do you like to spend your time outside of work?
I enjoy walking and traveling to do more walking to see what’s around the neighborhood.
