Many famous scientists from Berkeley have received a lot of attention this summer with the release of the blockbuster movie “Oppenheimer, ” including the Lab’s founder E. O. Lawrence. But how much do you know about Lawrence, his involvement in the Manhattan Project, and what drove him to develop the concept of team science that led to the national labs and other large, multidisciplinary, publicly funded science programs?

In a special event for the Berkeley Lab community, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Michael Hiltzik, the author of “Big Science: Ernest Lawrence and the Invention that Launched the Military-Industrial Complex,” will be in conversation with Lab Director Mike Witherell on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 1 p.m. to discuss Lawrence’s contributions to science.
