The Building 50, 70 shuttle stop will be temporarily closed from Oct. 15 through Dec. 22 for retaining wall construction. This effort is part of a critical project aimed at rebuilding and reinforcing deteriorated retaining walls around the Lab to prevent potential landslides and enhance safety.

Expect one-lane traffic and other delays on Smoot Road. Flaggers will be on Smoot Road and Seaborg Road as needed for traffic control. Give yourself extra time to get to your destination if you plan to drive through either road.

Impact Details:

  • Lane impacts: Seaborg Road will be affected. Downhill left turns from Smoot Road onto Seaborg Road will be impacted and may require driving to the traffic circle and back up Smoot Road to turn right onto Seaborg Road.
  • Pedestrian impacts: There will be detours on Seaborg Road and Smoot Road. The walkway in front of the shuttle stop will be closed, so pedestrians will need to use the walkway on the IGB side of Smoot Road near the construction area.
  • Shuttle impacts: The shuttle stop at B50/70 will be closed from Oct. 15 to Dec. 22. Please use the shuttle stop at B65 as an alternative during this period. To access the B50 parking level, head to the basement of 50A and take the elevator to the 4th floor. This closure will affect the Blue, Orange, and Rockridge shuttle routes. Use the TripShot app to track real-time arrivals.
  • Parking impacts: Three parking spaces in Parking Lot I and six parking spaces in Parking Lot J will be decommissioned for construction laydown, vehicles, and safety.
