To ensure the safety of the Lab community and minimize risk of personal vehicle damage during Collaboration Commons construction, Lot Z (near the Guest House) will experience significant closures due to heavy machinery and equipment activity, including:
- Half-day closures on April 11, 15, and 17
- Full closure from April 21 to the end of September
This critical Lab modernization project addresses seismic safety issues and enhances emergency response capabilities by replacing Building 54, which formerly housed the cafeteria. Once complete, Collaboration Commons will serve as a welcoming hub for Lab employees, visitors, and guests, offering dining, conferencing facilities, and centralized Operations services including Security, Human Resources, and the Health Services Clinic. The new 47,743-square-foot building will create a more operationally efficient campus and a beautiful central space where Lab employees can gather and collaborate.
The Lab community is invited to a Lunch & Learn session on Thursday, April 17 at 11 a.m. hosted by the Collaboration Commons project and operational leads. The session will cover construction progress, summer and fall construction plans, parking and transportation impacts, and conferencing space reservations. You’ll also get a sneak peek at the interior renderings of the facility.
Add the lunch & learn to your calendar.
