Starting the session with a brief safety message and reviewing the exits and evacuation routes is an easy step, and you can drive the safety message home by asking for a volunteer to lead the group to the evacuation area in case of an emergency. By sharing the responsibility for safety, you make all attendees more aware of their role in an emergency.
Francine Sneddon, one of the Lab’s Continuity Specialists in the Security and Emergency Services Division, created a presentation slide for a recent meeting that included external guests. “Spending a few minutes on safety at the start of a meeting is a best practice. It is especially important when the meeting includes external guests who are not familiar with the room or building. That small investment of time can pay dividends in a true emergency by improving response and potentially saving lives.”
Feel free to download Francine’s slide and instruction sheet and use them at your next meeting.
