“Moving the WD&E programs into the Directorate supports the Lab’s efforts to better align university programs with our scientific areas and brings all institution-wide internships and fellowship programs into one area,” said Faith Dukes, who will be interim Laboratory Education
Director during the transition. Dukes will continue to lead the Lab’s K-12 Education and Outreach program.
“The Lab has a history of supporting strong programs that develop an emerging generation of researchers,” said Carol Burns, Deputy Lab Director for Research. “Passing along knowledge and scientific thinking skills as well as inspiring an interest in research are critical to addressing the science problems we continue to face. This move allows us to leverage a stronger partnership to support the Lab’s mission.”
The WD&E programs serve approximately 200 students in a year, positioning the Lab to provide a vital link in the pipeline from school to work.
