Almost daily news headlines describing violence in public spaces and the workplace make preparing for such threats a sad but necessary requirement in today’s world. In this third week of National Preparedness Month, Berkeley Lab will host a hybrid lunch-and-learn event at noon on Thursday, Sept. 19,, when Berkeley Lab’s Security Operations Manager John DeVito, and Division Director of Security & Emergency Services David von Damm, will discuss the role everyone plays in preparing and preventing violence in our community.
The event will be held over Zoom and in person in Building 70A, Room 3377.
Learn more about the early detection and reporting of concerning or threatening behaviors, a key strategy to preventing and deescalating violent threats. The two will also discuss Department of Energy Order 470.5 “Insider Threat Program,” UC’s requirements, and the new California state workplace violence prevention requirements.
As part of National Preparedness Month, this week’s activity is to review and update your
LabAlert profile at go.lbl.gov/labalert. LabAlert is our primary means of communicating emergency information to the Lab. This includes issuing protective actions, such as a lockdown order, and attaining accountability for employees so we can accurately direct first responders for assistance. You can edit your profile to add personal contact information or change how you want to be alerted.
This is a hybrid event and will be recorded. Visit go.lbl.gov/npm to learn more about the month’s activities and download your Preparedness Passport. To receive passport credit for reading this article, please complete the form here.
