The Facilities Division’s Mail Services has moved to an on-demand pickup model effective April 6. By shifting to this model for low-volume mail stops, drivers can reduce the number of stops made and respond faster to active pickup requests, improving service and efficiency for the locations that need it the most.

Locations with Daily Mail Checks

Moving forward, daily checks for outgoing and interoffice mail will only occur at the following high-traffic locations:

  • Directorate suite 050A-4112
  • Library/FedEx 050-4032
  • B50 050-4060
  • HR 090-1116
  • OCFO 090-1121
  • DOE 090-1023
  • B90 090-1995
  • Health Services 026-109

Requesting a Pickup at Other Locations

For all other locations, a free Transportation mail pickup request is required for outgoing and interoffice mail weighing less than 10 lbs. Requests will be fulfilled the following business day and can be submitted through the simplified request form at workrequest.lbl.gov. A photo of all items must be included at the time of submission so Mail Services can confirm what needs to be picked up and ensure nothing is left behind. Please note: if mail is visible during a scheduled delivery, drivers will collect it without a work request. However, submitting a request guarantees a timely pickup.

For shipments over 10 lbs, a valid Project ID (PID) is required, as heavier items are processed as freight.

How to Submit a Pickup Request

To submit a pickup request, visit workrequest.lbl.gov, select Transportation, then Shipping/Mail pickup, and complete the required fields. Requests can be submitted from a computer or right from your mobile device. In addition, multiple pieces of outgoing mail can be grouped into a single work request — simply include photos of all items and submit one request for the full batch. All mail and shipping pickups must be from designated mail stops.
