Your safety and the safety of everyone on and around the Berkeley Lab campus is a top priority. As part of our ongoing commitment to a safe and courteous workplace, we are reminding all employees to follow the traffic regulations outlined below, both on and off campus.
Traffic Requirements to Remember
- Speed Limits: Adhere to the posted 15 mph speed limit at all times. Reduced speed zones are also in place to ensure pedestrian and vehicular safety.
- Stop Signs: Come to a complete stop at all stop signs.
- Passing: Only pass when it is safe and legal to do so. No passing buses or other vehicles that require extra caution.
- Crosswalks: Yield to pedestrians at designated crosswalks.
- Parking: Park only in designated areas and ensure that your vehicle is fully within the parking space and out of traffic lanes and fire lanes.
- No Distractions: Avoid using mobile devices while driving unless you are using a hands-free system.
Increased Enforcement Activity
The University of California Police Department (UCPD) has increased enforcement efforts across the Lab’s campus and surrounding areas. This will result in:
- Increased ticketing and citations for speeding, failure to stop, passing illegally, improper parking, and other traffic violations.
- Heightened monitoring of high-traffic areas, particularly during peak hours.
Drive with Caution and Courtesy
- Be Patient: Traffic congestion can occur, especially during peak times and around areas impacted by increased construction activities.
- Be Courteous: Yield to other drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. A little courtesy goes a long way.
- Stay Alert: Always be aware of your surroundings, including construction zones and areas with high pedestrian activity.
By following these guidelines, you help create a safer and more respectful environment for everyone. Together, we can ensure the Lab remains a safe and enjoyable place to work.
