Asmita Patel, Deputy Division Director for Operations for the Accelerator Technology & Applied Physics Division, earned a Ph.D. in molecular biology from UC Riverside, conducted postdoctoral research at UC Santa Barbara, and began her career as an R&D scientist. While working in private industry, she discovered an interest in how organizations work and was steered toward product management. During the rest of her 16 years’ experience in biotech, healthcare, and diagnostics in the private sector, followed by 15 years thus far at Berkeley Lab, Asmita took on progressively higher leadership responsibilities. During this journey, she also earned an executive MBA from the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley.
Asmita now leads a multidisciplinary team that includes Strategic Planning, Finance, Administrative Services, Environment Health & Safety, HR, Facilities, and Communications. She leads the annual Multi-Lab Safety Week, co-chairs ATAP’s Stewardship Committee, and serves on Labwide leadership committees, including the Mentoring Committee.
