The Lab is updating its Long-Range Development Plan (LRDP), which provides a framework for the Lab’s development over the next 20 years. The current LRDP covers development through 2025, and this plan, when approved,  will replace it.

The plan includes projections for campus population, building space, parking, and land use through 2045.  To assess the potential environmental impacts associated with LRDP development, Berkeley Lab has prepared a Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).  The decision to adopt the 2025 LRDP and certify its accompanying Final EIR will be made by the UC Regents, expected to be in late 2025.  Both the Draft LRDP and the Draft EIR are circulating for public review and comment through May 31. Additional information on the overall LRDP and EIR processes can be found on the project’s webpage.

The public is invited to share written and oral comments on the Draft EIR. To collect oral comments, the Lab will host a virtual public meeting on Tuesday, May 13, at 5 p.m. Lab staff are invited to attend. A court reporter will transcribe this meeting and all oral comments will be addressed—along with all written comments received—in the forthcoming Final EIR.

Registration is required to attend the public hearing.
