Thank you for sharing the information about Darren’s life. It was wonderful to read more about him.

Darren served LBL Building 90 for many years, and I remember him fondly. I often worked late and would see him making his rounds; he always had a smile and a friendly gesture that made you feel like a great friend.

One particular memory stands out: he once attended a lecture of mine. He sat right up front with a sign language interpreter and was very engaged. It was then that I discovered his great sense of humor.

I truly treasured our interactions, and since retiring six years ago, I have missed seeing him.

I am so sorry to hear of Darren passing. Darren and I first met years ago in the Building 90 Trailer Complex, and later, we saw more of each other in Building 76. I’m not sure how it came up, but I know sign language since I was raised by deaf parents. When our paths crossed, we would carry on a brief conversation. He would often share pictures of a recent truck convention he had attended with friends or tell me about one that he was planning to go to. Darren would periodically stop by my cubicle and ask me to help him by making a call to someone outside the Lab. Occasionally, I help Darren and the Lab by interrupting a conversation with an employee or at an All-Hands meeting when the Lab could not arrange for a professional interrupter.
I remember how Darren would engage you with a firm handshake and an infectious smile. Darren was a hardworking, successful deaf man that found a home at the Lab. He was a special man and he will be missed.

Darren worked in B50 while I was there. It was always so joyful to see his smiling face. He welcomed anyone into his world. When I left the Lab in 2013, he brought me a going away gift – a set of plastic salad bowls. His thoughtfulness has never left me and I still cherish and smile whenever I use those bowls. Darren was truly one of a kind and a kind of one. Rest in Peace to a truly fine gentleman.

I was very sorry to hear about Darren’s passing. He was always there to help me when I was carrying bulky items around Building 70. Even with his hearing disability, he would step in with a smile and lend a hand. We often communicated by writing back and forth, and those simple notes turned into fun little conversations that brightened my day. His kindness and willingness to help meant a lot to me. I will truly miss seeing him and chatting with him in our own way.

    Darren will be deeply missed.
